Brain storm was a cut power from Psychonauts 2. The power would allow its user to randomly change objects into other objects.[1] It was intended to be taught to Raz by Compton Boole, but never made it into the final game.

Psychonauts 2[]

Originally the ability meant to be learned by Razputin at some point during the events of Compton's Cookoff, given by (redundantly) Compton Boole himself. Commentary from the devs reveals that the ability meant to have an unique gimmick where by using it multiple objects would be spawned or even changed into different ones; this would have been much efficient in Cookoff in order to spawn the required ingredients according to the circumstance during gameplay. Other commentaries points out that the removal of this PSI-Power lead to a problem where a lot of level design changes were needed in every single Mental World.

Assets exists inside the game’s files but more importantly: animations for Raz[2] and all mental enemies exists inside the game, revealing that the ability could have served also the purpose of stunning enemies.[3] Something like a multipurpose Confusion grenade although it isn’t confirmed how long the effects would have lasted or if it meant to deal enemy damage in the process.

  • The name comes from the term "brainstorming", which is a method of sharing ideas between people.
  • During the demonstration gameplay for this psychic power, the icon used for this ability has the same style as the original PSI-Powers from Psychonauts 1.
