The Brain in a Jar is an item collected from the Brainframe a machine from the workshop of Otto Mentallis in Psychonauts 2. The brain is taken by Raz in order to place it on Nick Johnsmith’s body to gain access to the office of the Mailroom.

Psychonauts 2

After gaining access to the whole Motherlobe as well as outside locations situated in the Quarry thanks to Truman Zanotto; when the player decides to go into Otto Lab (Otto’s workshop), Raz has a conversation with Otto in which, aside from getting two of his devices (the Otto-Shot Camera and the Thought Tuner), Raz gets to know about the Brainframe, a machine preserving thousands of brains which have lack body since long time. The one and only brain Raz seems to be able to pull from the machine is one from an user named as "Heptadome Harry", a brain which all of its details are uncertain or unconfirmed. Raz has a small peek into its mental world, finding nothing but darkness and a mote of light, which engages a conversation with, agreeing that Raz would find a body for him.

The jarred brain then remains in Raz’s inventory until it is used in Nick and that’s when the events of PSI King's Sensorium occurs.

Trivia

• In the cutscene of collecting and putting the brain in Nick, it’s shown how Raz puts and pulls the brain from his backpack; yet the inventory item shows like if Raz bring the brain in the capsule
  • In the same cutscene that collects the brain, Raz does the same gesture as in Psychonauts where; after collecting Jarred Brains he would comment something and then kiss it.
