Compton Boole is a member of the Psychic Six. He appears in Psychonauts 2. He is the grandfather of Dogen Boole and Sam Boole.
Appearance[]
Compton has light green skin, pink eyebags, brown eyes, and a small pink nose. Much like his grandson, Dogen, he is squat in stature with extremely short legs. Compton is balding in his old age, but his remaining hair is black with white streaks. He also has a black mustache and goatee. He can be seen wearing a metal bowler hat that has a keyhole on the front and is embossed with a pattern resembling the folds of a brain. He wears a brown suit and a blue shirt.
Personality[]
Compton has a great love for animals. He lacks self-confidence to the point of anxiety, believing that he cannot complete anything the right way unless someone is helping him. Like his grandson, he is prone to making things explode when he is overwhelmed. He has extreme performance anxiety, and constantly feels judged by others, especially his colleagues in the Psychonauts.
Background[]
When Compton was young, he snuck into an animal sanctuary to free the mistreated animals from their cages. Once freed, the animals swarmed Compton to lick him. However, this overwhelmed Compton, and he accidentally blew all the animals up with his his psychic powers. The traumatized Compton who was then found and thrown in the local jail. Compton was soon bailed out by Ford Cruller, who saw potential in Compton, and recruited him to the team of psychic researchers that was later called the Psychic Six.
Once he joined the group, he befriended a woman named Cassie O'Pia, and the two of them bonded over their love for beekeeping and bowling. Eventually, the group began experimenting with their psychic abilities using the Astralathe, a device designed to alter a person's psyche in order to broaden their knowledge of how their minds worked.
Years later, tragedy stuck when one of their former colleagues, Lucrecia Mux, transformed into the genocidal monster known as Maligula as a result of her involvement in the Grulovian War. Compton and his friends were summoned to deal with her in what would become the first mission for the organization later named the Psychonauts. After Helmut Fullbear and Cassie failed to talk her down, Compton summoned an army of animals to attack her, but Maligula washed them away with a wave.
Eventually, Maligula was defeated. After the remaining members mourned Helmut, the Psychonauts were given their own base, known as the Motherlobe. At the opening ceremony, Compton took up most of the spotlight alongside Otto Mentallis, but he felt he didn't accomplish enough to earn the attention. Compton instead spent most of his time going bowling with Cassie. However, Cassie eventually left for Green Needle Gulch due to her own inner turmoil spurred by an identity crisis. With Cassie gone, Compton became overwhelmed with his duties and his anxiety to the point that he locked himself in Psychoisolation to prevent himself from blowing anyone up.

Compton appears on a carved portrait in the Reception Area at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp.
Psychonauts 2[]
Raz encounters Compton in his Psychoisolation chamber in the Motherlobe, having shut himself away to prevent any explosion accidents. Raz wants to borrow Compton's Senior Bowling Pass to access the Motherlobe's bowling alley, but Compton refuses because of its sentimental value. He does however agree to relinquish it if Raz can get Compton a single bee from the Forgotten Forest near Green Needle Gulch, intending to use it to ask for Cassie and her well-being. Raz manages to return from the forest with three bees, which proves to be overwhelming for Compton (because of his ability to understand the creatures), sending the elder Boole into a meltdown. Raz, concerned for his well-being, enters Boole's mind.
Upon finally overcoming the cooking challenges in his mind, Compton finally overcomes his anxieties and finally frees himself from the Psychoisolation chamber. He sets off to find Cassie, while Raz borrows his bowling pass.
Boole is later seen after Raz helps Cassie. Having finally tracked her down, the two reunite and work together to subdue a swarm of angry bee that are swarming around the Astralathe. Once Raz activates the Astralathe for Ford Cruller, Compton and Cassie reunite with the now once again put-together Ford and Otto. They are then met with Bob Zanotto, standing next to Helmut Fullbear (in a borrowed body), who was long-thought to be deceased. The Psychic Six happily reunite after 20 long years, although they express their regret over how their former friend Lucrecia Mux couldn't be with them. This sentiment is interrupted by the arrival of Raz's Nona, who had been Lucrecia/Maligula all along (although she herself was unaware).
Ford and Raz bring the others up to speed: that Ford had shut Maligula away in Lucrecia's mind with the Astralathe after their climactic Battle in Grulovia, altering her and Augustus Aquato's memories in the process and shattered his own psyche with the machine: all drastic measures to prevent Maligula from reemerging and keep Lucrecia safe. However, the alterations in Lucrecia's mind have weakened over time, and Maligula was certain to return if they didn't intervene soon.
With Compton, Cassie, Helmut, Bob, and Otto powering the Astralathe, Ford and Raz enter Lucrecia's mind to open a mental chasm in Lucrecia's mind, and push Maligula in so she may never reemerge again. However, despite their efforts, Maligula awakens nonetheless due to outside interference. Compton and the other member of the Psychic Six, as well as the Psychonauts and Gristol Malik, are all swept up in the evil psychic's maelstrom, leaving Raz to face Maligula. Raz, alongside his fellow Psychic Interns (including his granddaughter, Sam), emerge triumphant against Lucrecia's deranged alter-ego, and Maligula is finally sent into the deepest depths of Lucrecia's mind.
After Maligula is defeated, he and Cassie are found in Green Needle Gulch, having taken up beekeeping together.
Psychic Powers[]
- Zoolingualism: One of Compton's specialty PSI-powers is zoolingualism.
- Marksmanship: While trying to save puppies from a pound, he gets overwhelmed and accidentally disintegrates them with blastokinesis.[1]
Relationships[]
Dogen Boole[]
Dogen is Compton's grandson. When Raz tells Compton that he's friends with his grandson, he expresses concern over whether the younger Boole has managed to accidentally blow anyone up recently.
Sam Boole[]
Sam is Compton's granddaughter. The two have not been shown to interact, though Sam does think of him as nice, but weird.
Cassie O'Pia[]
Compton and Cassie were both members of the Psychic Six. The two used to be particularly close even within their group. They both took up beekeeping, using their talents to maximize honey production. Compton's self-worth plummeted and his anxiety intensified when Cassie abandoned the Motherlobe for the Forgotten Forest.
Ford Cruller[]
Ford recruited Compton into the Psychic Six. They are, or at least were presumably friends, but Compton's anxiety also leaves him terrified of Ford's judgement, as a puppet version of Ford is the lead judge to the cooking competition that plays out in Compton's mind.
Otto Mentallis[]
Otto and Compton were both members of the Psychic Six and were presumably friends. Otto Meatallis, one of the puppet judges in Compton's mind, indicates Compton is terrified of Otto's judgement of his performance.
Truman Zanotto[]
As the Grand Head of the Psychonauts, Truman is Compton's direct superior. The announcer puppet Tincan Zanotto in Compton's mind illustrates the way Truman "runs the show". The pressure his commentary puts on makes him no less intimidating to Compton than the actual judges.
Hollis Forsythe[]
Hollis is a colleague of Compton's at the Psychonauts, and a generally stern and no-nonsense person. Headbutt Forsythe, one of the puppet judges in Compton's mind, indicates Compton is terrified of Hollis' judgement of his performance.
Lizzie Natividad[]
Lizzie is Compton's assigned mentee. However, he tasks her to bring him an animal simply to keep her occupied and away from him.
Trivia[]
- Like his grandson, Dogen Boole, Compton has issues controlling his blastokinesis to the point of it accidentally costing lives.
