Golden Trophies |
–Steam achievement description
Golden Trophies are collectible upgrades in mental worlds that when picked up permanently increases the capacity for specific items; from amount of ammo for PSI-Powers like Marksmanship or Confusion to even increase the amount of Astral Projection Layers. They first debut in Psychonauts, in the Brain Tumbler Experiment on the first revisiting of the mental world. Since the lives system and ammo amount are removed in Psychonauts 2 these mental world items are only exclusive from the first game.
Golden Helmet[]
Locations:[]
- Brain Tumbler Experiment: After completing Sasha's Shooting Gallery, return to this mental world and head to the thorny tower area. The item is located just behind the tower, not far from the second memory vault.
- Lungfishopolis:After exiting the monorail tunnel, look for the item on top of the very first tower on the left side of the skyscraper island.
- Milkman Conspiracy: Found on a small park-like island, which is accessible via a powerline guarded by a phone line mechanic G-men.
- Waterloo World: Located in the area with the stronghold and the third peasant’s house, above the arch structure that resembles a small bridge, close to the river.
- Black Velvetopia #1: In the alley with the dalmatian, after climbing the pole and past the shouting censor on the left, use the designated spot to hang the painting of the window. This will lead Razputin to an upper area with a mental cobweb and a Golden Helmet.
- Black Velvetopia #2 (Missable): This item is only obtainable during a side mission where Raz must assist Dingo Inflagrante with painting his billboard. Use Confusion to distract El Odio so the bulldog can finish quickly.
Upgrades:[]
At the beginning of the game, Raz starts with 5 astral layers; one golden helmet equals one astral projection layer therefore, since 6 golden helmets can be collected throughout the entirety of the game, the maximum amount of lives that can be obtained are 11.
Golden Ball of Hate[]
–Blurb from the Psycho Manual
Locations:[]
- Milla's Dance Party: After completing the race and reaching the fan room, head to the right side where three bubble vents are attached to the wall. The Golden Item is located at the top of this section.
- Lungfishopolis: Upon reaching the upper part of the city, look at the first buildings; you will find a Golden Ball of Hate on top of one of these buildings.
- Milkman Conspiracy: Inside the house guarded by G-men with hedge trimmers, as well as those pretending to be an obsessed wife with rolling pins.
- Gloria's Theater: Found on the second highest set of stands, specifically on the right side, near where Jasper Rolls is almost reached. Climb the small platform with the manual mood override for easier access to these stands.
- Waterloo World: After crossing the second bridge, find the Golden Item on the very top of the third peasant’s house, which is ironically close to the Golden Helmet's location.
- Black Velvetopia: In the Queen of Hearts area, use the painting of the guitar to jump to the second platform with a lowerable ladder. Before entering Collie Alley, look high up on the left side to spot a platform with the item.
Upgrades:[]
When obtaining the learner's permit and the merit badge for PSI-Blast, Razputin starts with 30 ammo capacity; when collecting golden balls of hate it increases the ammo by 5 ammunitions. With that being said and considering that in total there are 6 amounts of these trophies making it a total of 60 ammo capacity expansions, the upgrades goes as follows:
- 1st upgrade = 35 ammo
- 2nd upgrade = 40 ammo
- 3rd upgrade = 45 ammo
- 4th upgrade = 50 ammo
- 5th upgrade = 55 ammo
- 6th final upgrade = 60 ammo
Golden Question Mark[]
Locations:[]
- Gloria's Theater: Before the segment with the shouting censor and trampolines, Raz must slide down a large yellow and red cloth. This golden trophy appears only after obtaining Confusion and revisiting this mental world.
- Waterloo World: In the restaurant near the river where the hearty knight resides, the item is located at the very top of the building, near the big signboard. Similar to Gloria's case, it requires revisiting the level.
- Black Velvetopia: Under Dingo's department, there is a secret path through the chimney leading to a house with a suitcase inside, accessible only by passing through a rail. A Golden Question Mark can be found on a balcony to the left of the rail.
- Meat Circus: At the beginning, reach the end of the street with floating parts. The golden upgrade is located below it, along with a hatbox tag.
Upgrades:[]
The initial amount of ammo for Confusion is 5 grenades, unlike Marksmanship where each upgrade will add 5 more ammunitions in this case only 1 ammunition is expanded per golden question mark collected. Making it a total of 9 grenades, just for the reckon, this is how the list goes for each upgrade:
- 1st upgrade = 6 ammo
- 2nd upgrade = 7 ammo
- 3rd upgrade = 8 ammo
- 4th final upgrade = 9 ammo
