Grulovia

Behold, the glory of Grulovia!

–Voice of Grulovia

Grulovia is a country in the Psychonauts series, presumably in Eastern Europe. Twenty years before the events of Psychonauts, the country was ruled by Gzar Theodore, who at one point fled the country with his family after the Valermo Dam disaster. The country collapsed into ruin shortly thereafter, and most of its citizens fled to neighboring nations as refugees.

The Valermo Dam Disaster was a flash flood indirectly caused by the Malik family that drowned thousands of Grulovian citizens.

Children of Grulovia[]

In Gristol's mind, while Raz is on the ride, Children of Grulovia sing about the key events that took place there. This song, however, is heavily coloured by Gristol Malik's perception, rather than a representation of historical facts. For example, the lyrics claim 'the people's complaints drown in prosperity', when the citizenship of Grulovia frequently demonstrated against famine, presumably due to the Gzar extracting wealth for his own use rather than feeding the people of Grulovia.

Trivia[]

  • According to Nona, winter in Grulovia is extremely harsh.
  • Grulovia have their own Secret Police.[1]
  • Judging by Lucrecia's accent, the people's attires, and the words such as "Gzesaverich", Grulovia seems to be of Slavic origin. A couple of Raz's comments in Psychonauts, as well as the people's clothing, may suggest the country is more of a mix between Slavic and Romani ethnicities.
    • Another hint that Grulovia is Slavic are the fancy eggs, which could be a reference to the famous Fabergé eggs, manufactured in St. Petersburg under the supervision of Peter Carl Fabergé, a Russian jeweler.
