The Mega Censor is the very first boss fight in Psychonauts and a mental figure faced in Sasha's Shooting Gallery.
Background[]
Mega Censor was the result of Razputin closing up all of Sasha's Censor outlets. All the censor valves that were shut down produced a build-up of censor energy which in the process made the Censors merge together and create the Mega Censor.
Appearance[]
Thanks to be a combination of several different types of censors, the Mega Censor is notorious by his giant and mutated appearance. Most of the clothing has been torn out, minus the pants and his black shoes; parts of the business suit that remain reveal a similar color as the "Shouting Censor" attire. Presents non-symmetric legs, one leg thicker than the other, the hair and glasses are twisted; and lastly the body itself can be consider both hideously muscular and morbidly fat. His voice is evidently low-pitched than any other Censor, being more than anything monstrous.
Psychonauts[]
Razputin finds himself shutting down a bunch of censor outlets which followed produced different structures representing memories of Sasha to emerge on the surface of the giant cube. Raz accomplishes in shutting down each and one of the censor outlets; however instead of making everything turn back to normal, this causes a huge build-up of censor energy and by consequence create the Mega Censor. He initially attempts to crush Raz with his large stamp, but Sasha pushes the young psychic out of the way, getting himself crush and stay stuck into the Mega Censor’s big stamp.
Raz fights the Mega Censor throughout the entire cube while shutting the valves that keep spawning censors for the Mega Censor to regenerate. After quite the ferocious battle, Raz defeats the Mega Censor and earns his merit badge for PSI Blast, now able to return back to the Brain Tumbler Experiment and face his own inner demons.

Initially the Mega Censor chases Raz throughout the entirety of the cube attempting to stamp out the young psychic out of the mind; while using mental focus it shouldn’t be hard to dodge his main attack, yet it’s not recommended to use PSI-Punch at this point since the "Little Censors" keep healing him by jumping into the Mega Censor’s body. The player must close the vents that are releasing the Censors by shooting them; there are 5 vents in total. After closing the vents second phase begins and the Mega Censor cannot be healed anymore (unless there are still a few Censors running around), so the player can proceed to take it down, however, It then starts using a new range attack but also no longer runs so instead he walks menacingly towards Raz with a decent speed. To ease the battle: locking into the Mega Censor plus using PSI Blast is the option but going for a more challenging way is relying only to punching and dodging at the right time once again by locking into the boss.
Abilities and Health[]
- Big Stamp: The Mega Censor rises his stamp and slams it into the ground, If Raz is nearby he’ll get pushed back and stunned for 2 seconds, but if he gets crushed it’ll cost him 4 hit points of his mental health (1 whole brain).
- Boil of Censors: The Mega Censor plucks fleshy boils out his belly and throws them at Raz current position or wherever his heading; their paths go on a straight direction until exploding by their own or crashing into Raz which it’ll cost him 3 hit points of his mental health. Post-explosion, the boils releases between 2 or 3 Little Censors.
- Regenerative Censors: From the valves, Little Censors spawn and tracks down the Mega Censor to keep him completely safe from any type of harm.
- Little Censors: The Little Censors chases Raz during phase 2; their only way of attacking is by slamming their stamps towards Raz which of course it’ll cost him 1 hit point of his mental health.
- Strength and Speed: The Mega Censor showcases a higher resistance than any other Censor as a product of his hugeness and despite his fatness, he’s able to move at a fast speed which can be compared as Raz using Levitation. In addition to this, he never shows any signs of fatigue, showing that he can constantly chase his target even if it out passes him on speed.
In terms of health, while its giant size and attacks makes him look strong and menacing in reality, the Mega Censor has a very low health. Both PSI-Punch and PSI Blast deal the same damage for this boss, so for both abilities in total this boss requires 10 hits (15 if we count the 5 censor outlets).
Trivia[]
- If Razputin gets crushed by the stamp, Sasha, sticking just next to him, will give him a hint. However, repeating this too much will result in Sasha blurting out nonsense from being hit on the head too many times.
- When Razputin is hurt by the Mega Censor it leans back and laughs at him.
- Invisibility seems to be disabled for the boss fight, while the sound effect can be heard, the animation doesn’t show up. This probably was done to not make the boss fight very easy.
- In the original trailer for Psychonauts the fight with the mega censor has two major differences.
- In one of the first clips, three different figments can be spotted meaning that if you missed some figments they would still appear even in the fight despite the structures being entirely gone.
- In the last clip featuring the battle it can be noticed how the mega censor seems to have way more health since his health bar doesn’t reduce that much unlike in the final game.
