–Psychonauts 2 description
Mental Projection, sometimes called archetype, is the psychic power to create a 2D archetype of one's self. In Psychonauts 2, this ability allows Raz to access areas he otherwise wouldn't be able to, either to pull levers, unlock doors, or get access to otherwise unobtainable items.

Uses[]
- Projection can be used to open areas that Raz cannot access normally, such as doors with a mail slot locked from the other side or bars that can only be moved through a mechanism on the other side.
- The Archetype can also be used to distract and draw enemy aggro away from the real Raz. However, the Archetype does have health and can die if it takes too much damage.
- Projection can be upgraded to make the Archetype take twice as much damage and even retaliate against melee attacks.
- With an upgrade, the Archetype can heal Raz by giving him a Mental Energy drop on occasion. If Raz is damaged when the Archetype is summoned, the Archetype will give a health drop immediately after being summoned.
Strategies[]
- When an enemy is currently hitting the archetype to finish it off, Raz can strike with his PSI-Punch or PSI-Blast from behind, for enemies that tends to dodge projectiles like the Enabler and Panic Attack this comes in handy.
- Pyrokinesis can be used if the archetype attracts the attention of many enemies, this can be used to burn them all in one spot. Only downside being that the archetype might as well receive damage too.
Psychonauts 2[]
Mental Projection similar to other PSI-Powers like Confusion or Shield are abilities that were thought to Raz by actual mental figures of the host's mind more than the actual host, though in Teacher Cassie's case can be an exception to an extent. In order to move around Cassie's mind, Raz must learn this ability that'll let him reach areas that weren't made for him to pass through them regularly. It is implied that in the real world archetypes are also used but as a method of surviving and facing challenges of life according to the environment one is in, like Cassie when she had to find her way out of her home town or after the events that made the Psychic Seven split.
Trivia[]
- This power might have been based on the Psychic Projection ability from the Psychonauts 2 Art Test video from 2016 as both powers are centered around Raz creating mental clones of himself to solve puzzles and distract enemies.[1]
- Raz's Archetype is voiced by Rosearik Rikki Simmons.
- Mental connection can be used along with Archetype to indefinitely bounce on water. While the archetype is summoned, Raz can bounce on water and use mental connection to grab onto him. Doing this will restart the "bounce" sequence.
