Mindswarm is a self-help book written by Cassie O'Pia.
History[]
When Cassie O'Pia was arrested for counterfeiting, she agreed to provide evidence against her employer. However, the crooked police officers intended to use this evidence not to stop the counterfeiting ring, but to extort money from the counterfeiters, making life even worse for Cassie. By night, she worked on a manuscript for her self-help book, using the mental techniques she pioneered. She broke into the factory where the counterfeiters made their bills and used the machines to print up the manuscript, sending it off to get published.
The book was a success. Cassie made a small fortune off the book, using the proceeds to purchase a one-way ticket on a ship away from the city, getting away from her old life once and for all. She was eventually recruited into the Psychic Six and later the Psychonauts, where her book became one of the main references for high-efficiency mental work. Through her friendship with Compton Boole, she got the chance to apply her mental swarm techniques when he taught her how to communicate with bees.
Psychonauts 2[]
When Raz went to Green Needle Gulch to find Cassie, one of the first things he asked her was to sign his copy of Mindswarm.
Subject[]
The book provides a twenty-five-step process to improving one's mental efficiency. For psychics, this also includes the potential of "swarming" with other minds, with multiple minds working on the same task simultaneously while communicating telepathically with one another. It also provides techniques for the creation of archetypes to segment and focus on multiple tasks, permitting advanced multitasking.
Trivia[]
- Milla Vodello is a student of Cassie's method, using her multitasking techniques to search the world for mental information about the potential return of Maligula, while retaining the presence of mind to carry on a conversation with Raz.
- Fitting it's name and bee motif, this book is shaped like a honeycomb.
