The Psychonauts are an elite group of international secret agents who work with the federal government to keep peace around the world and to investigate Unregistered Paranormal Entities. Most members have psychic abilities, however not all members do. Truman Zanotto, father to Lili Zanotto, is the grand head of the Psychonauts. Their headquarters are located at the Motherlobe.

An isolation chamber.

The Psychonauts used to operate Geodesic Psychoisolation Chambers as solitary confinement for Psychics. Psychics were locked inside the chambers for an unknown reason, likely for experimentation, however the practice stopped sometime in the 1950's. One chamber remains on Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp, a summer camp for young psychics funded by the Psychonauts. Children born with psychic talents can be sent to the camp to hone their abilities.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin

Decades ago, The Psychonauts organization constructed an underwater base located in the Rhombus of Ruin. The purpose of the laboratory was to study the effects from a large underwater Psilirium deposit on the human mind. The effects proved to be incredibly harmful to the Psychonaut members stationed at the facility, and it was promptly abandoned. The facility was later used as a hideout for (and was subsequently destroyed by) Dr. Caligosto Loboto.

Psychonauts 2

The complete history of the Psychonauts organization is currently unknown. However, it has been hinted in recent trailers for Psychonauts 2 that it has a dark past which some very powerful people would like to keep silenced. The second in command at the Psychonauts has diverted funding away from civil protection to the research of unorthodox psychic studies, such as necromancy.


There are restricting how Psychonauts can use their powers. In Psychonauts, if Razputin tries to use the Psycho-Portal on a camper it fails and the following text is displayed: "In accordance with Section 3, Paragraph 1 of the "Young Minds Protection Act," any device created for the purpose of invasive psychic procedure must have built-in safeguards which make its use upon anyone under the age of eighteen (18) impossible."

The PSI-Power, Marksmanship, requires a learners permit.
