The Thought Tuner is a gadget Razputin can obtain in Psychonauts 2. It was developed by Otto Mentallis and could be found stored in his workshop. The device allows the user to detect stray thoughts around the real world, and focus them so that they turn into nodes that can be grappled to using Mental Connection.
Description[]
The Thought Tuner is made up of two elements: a handheld tuner and an accompanying headset.
The tuner is a handheld device with a retro-futuristic design, brown and yellow with white trim. It has two knobs on its face, and a small screen in the middle with a decorative color spectrum going from red to blue just above it. It has two antennae on top that move back and forth when the device is in use.
The headset has a yellow headband with a red led light on top. Its earpieces are bulky and rectangular, and bear the same color spectrum on their sides as the one on the tuner. Their most notable feature is a yellow telescopic antenna with a little radar dish that spins when the tuner is used.
Trivia[]
- Razputin will refuse to pull out the Tuner inside any mental worlds, as they are entirely made up of thoughts. When attempted, he'll express his worry that the device might overload and explode, or at the very least make an extremely loud noise as it detects all the thoughts at once.
- The Thought Tuner works similarly to the Dowsing Rod from the first game, though it's not used to collect currency.
- When putting the thought tuner on, Raz will comment that although he knows some people will think it looks dorky, he thinks it looks cool.
