Therefore, it was chosen as the ideal place to train the next generation of our nation's psychic secret agents: THE PSYCHONAUTS! The government decided to advertise the training facility as an ordinary, run-of-the-mill Psychic Summer Camp for children. But to build and operate the camp they sent of of their most experienced, most powerful, most unpredictable operatives... Ford Cruller.”
–Game introduction
The unreleased Psychonauts mobile game was a demo build of a game developed in 2011 by Double Fine Productions and intended for release on mobile platforms. The game had the player taking on the role of Ford Cruller as he constructed Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp, by ordering the newly-arrived camp kids to use Telekinesis to clear the area and build the camp's facilities. The game's story was most likely non-canonical.
In-game Ford quotes[]
- "Looks like I'm gonna be here a while. Better find a place to park old Blue!"
- "Well, it ain't pretty, but it'll do until I get a more permanent residence!"
- "Eh? What's that peculiar, purple outgassing over there? Could it be...?"
- "Ooooweee, a pure PSITANIUM arrowhead! I'd better keep a lookout for these!"
- "Hey, our first worker -- I mean, customer! You're just in time, kid! Got some trees that need pullin'!"
- "A little hard work in the sunshine, that's what camp's all about, kid. Trust me!"
Trivia[]
- According to Tim Schafer, he wound up writing at least 50 quests for the prototype during a 2-week span.
- According to the original timeline, Whispering Rock was built about 5 years before the events of ''Psychonauts''. Because all of the campers are very young during ''Psychonauts'', this would make the campers in the mobile game infants. Therefore, the timeline in the mobile game shouldn't be taken too seriously.
- The game was partly inspired by the videogame Tiny Tower.
- The game would have had microtransactions to speed up the in-game waiting processes.
- If the game actually released, it would have been the only Psychonauts game to not have Raz as the protagonist, and presumably also the only one to not feature Raz at all, being set before Psychonauts.
